[ the very loaded question wanda has always loathed. she doesn't quite know if she's okay, but she knows that she's alive. that's got to count for something even if this town's trying to rip them all wide open from the very beginning. ]
I'm okay. Better now that I know I have someone to bully Dean with.
[ there's so much time they have to make up for. ]
Are you okay?
Is it wrong to say I'm glad you're here? I can take it back if it is.
[It's a shitty empty question, tbf. Are any of them okay? Absolutely not. So simply being alive is probably a pretty good answer right now. Sam will accept just about any answer, though. Wanda is interesting and he enjoys her company. Plus she's the only girl he can talk to right now without getting in trouble or having an intervention staged behind his back so. You know. Whatever.]
I don't think that's wrong. I don't have anywhere else to be and like you said, now that the dream team is back together everything is perfect.
Though we should probably lay off him for a little while, it's his time of the month.
[ even without standing in front of him, she can sense that something's off. he's very blasĂŠ. perhaps this is sam when he's upset with dean. she's not surprised if they've bumped heads over something; she remembers bumping heads with pietro over the simplest and biggest things. stress levels would be higher than normal, the trench has been strange in ways wanda hasn't been able to anticipate. ]
My house from Deerington is here. Not quite a shit hole, either. But I'll keep it in mind when it gets too quiet. The cabin was always so loud whenever I dropped by.
You're always welcome to come here whenever you need some space.
[ no more being driven up walls if it can be helped. ]
Not too far. We're in Ache but this teleport by lantern thing makes it all pretty easy. If you've set down a lantern I think I can travel straight to that.
How many times have you teleported by the lantern?
[ it's not something she's chosen to do. there doesn't seem to be a point with how she can not only fly but manipulate the world around her. but perhaps it would be fun... ]
[ despite his confidence, she's worried. this is magic that she can't control. if anything goes wrong, she's not entirely sure she can fix it immiediately.
but thinking like that will only make it happen. instead, she tries to be confident herself.
after a minute: ]
I have.
[ she's set it outside, around the area where she thinks the border of her property is. it's subtle how the grass seems to differ, but wanda feels that there's a thin line that she can cross where it feels less like home. ]
You'll be outside of my house. Hopefully it won't be too disorienting.
[And true to word he won't. He just grabs a few bottles from the stash (sorry Dean, not sorry at all) and heads to their lantern to focus on the one that feels the most like Wanda.
It's weird tech, (okay, it's magic..) but once you get the hang of it the whole thing is pretty easy. It reminds Sam of the flue network in Harry Potter. Shut up.
Way less jolting than teleportation in his own world was.
But whatever, enjoy Wanda there is a large wild man thing at the edge of your property and he comes bearing gifts.]
[ the wild man thing that appears on the edge of her property is, indeed, one sam winchester. it's good to see that the lighthouses and the strange travelling everyone seemed to endure over the last month or so hasn't done anything to change how he physically appears.
something feels different about him. she can't quite put her finger on it, but for now, she's more focused on wanting to ensure he's in one piece. sam seems like the type to still insist he's fine despite being cut in half.
wanda, still rather tiny despite how big she's grown in her powerbase, approaches him with her hands in the pockets of her coat. her lantern remains where he stands, glowing brightly despite the ugly creatures seeming to cling to it.
smiling, she extends her hands to her sides, still in her pockets. ] Welcome to Casa de Wanda.
[He smiles and straightens up a little bit. There's a glance spared for the lamp friends but he doesn't care about them either way and thus has no opinion.
Wanda seems a little different too, but in a good way. A solid way. Maybe she'd just been especially traumatised there at the end of Deerington or maybe his new blood abilities here are picking up on the sparks of her emense power. Either way he opens his arms a little bit, hands holding bottles.]
Well.. New world, monsters, weird blood.. I'm pretty sure we're squids now, but yeah. Mostly okay. Better to know you're here.
[ she cocks a brow and smiles. that's not the question he's asking, she knows. he's asking the question people who care about you ask. it's not a question she knows how to answer properly. never really bothered to create a script for it the way she has everything else.
she shrugs and takes a step forward to gently take one of the bottles from his hands. can't trust a moose to carry everything, after all. ]
I'm still deciding on how I feel. [ it's the truth, at least. ] At least there are familiar faces. [ she looks pointedly at sam before looking at the bottle in her hand. ] And alcohol.
[ she scrunches her nose. ] Do you think squids can drink alcohol?
[In fairness to Wanda it is a pretty terrible question and not one that is easy to answer truthfully. Sam appreciates her candid honesty. He always has.]
Well, there's only one way to find out.
[He gives a gesture back towards the house to lead on. He will follow faithfully and admire the familiar architecture. He's seen houses like this a million times from the back window of the impala. Another thousand times during investigations. A time or two on pleasure. They're nice. Traditional. Familiar.]
[ her house is too big for just one person, but it's enough for wanda. to her, it looks like a house that would belong to a witch with its high roof, numerous windows, front porch, and the porch steps that would be perfect for pumpkins at halloween. to her, the house is a perfect mix of all the houses she used to imagine herself and pietro living in from her serials.
she leads him along her front yard that's plain without many trees or garden beds. she's still trying to figure that all outâdoes she want a tree to the right? extend her driveway to the left? it's a work in progress, much like her, but everything around the house looks real and vibrant. some of the bushes lined in front of her house pulse a faint red.
she nods. ] Just Wanda.
[ she looks up at her house and thinks that it would be better if it was filled with people, but all she has is ghosts. ]
Oh. And animals. [ she wrinkles her nose. ] I have horses around the back and a dog somewhere digging holes. It's loud enough with them here.[ still quiet.
she turns around so she's walking backwards. regarding him with a furrowed brow, ] Are you allergic to dogs? I can get rid of all the dog hair.
[Just Wanda. Maybe that's better. You can get more done when you're alone. Focus better, work sharper, fight harder. There's no one slowing you down. No one to get in your way. Sam is a little jealous.
Or he might say he was. He doesn't really feel anything and it doesn't bother him. It should, but here we are.
He smiles and shakes his head no.]
Not at all, I love dogs. What kind is he?
[Old Sam loved dogs. This Sam is indifferent but he's doing his best to act like nothing is different in a world where everything is.]
And that I can reach you, too. I know there will be things that would be better written down than thought of. Like how I am glad that you're still here.
[ it's always nice to have a written reminder, isn't it? ]
No. I hope that wherever they are, they're together.
The Trench fished my brother out. I haven't seen him in a very long time. I think you would find him a little exasperating. He talks too much. Never takes a breath.
[ wanda is so very grateful for pietro, but she still hasn't quite allowed herself to fully accept that he's here. it's all she's wanted for years. to think the trench has given her not only a community that doesn't try and shove her out but her long lost deceased brother... ]
If you see anyone who zips by you at super speed that is colored blue, you can trip him. You have my permission.
All Mu are telepathic and empathic, but only type-blue Mu can fly or teleport. Different auras come with different proficiencies, be it offensive or defensive or connective.
I did use to wonder what it would've been like if I had been simply human, but being without my abilities seems frightening. I do miss being strong enough to fly, however.
[ wanda thinks to tell him he's not alone in those thoughts. being human seems simpler. it's harder to hurt people when she can't move things with her mind and try and catch bombs and guide them up the length of tall buildings. ]
Yes. Though I suppose it's also telekinesis...of myself. But I used to enjoy the feeling of flying, and it was helpful to rush to help. You do not fly? Your gifts certainly seem capable of it at a glance.
[wanda.............that isn't very ergonomic..................]
Mere moments before I had left the universe I knew. I had flown then with the last of my strength before everything changed. It was not a joyful flight.
[o dayum looks like we got us a THREAD for the event log]
Very high expectations...I will look forward to it. Let me tend to my companions here in the house first...as anxious as I am to leave, I want to make sure they will be alright. Things have been very rough on them of late.
[ the very hungry vampire who wanda has kept tabs on in her own way. he seems to have gotten that chomping a little under control.
it's not fair of her to hold him being out of control against him, so, wanda doesn't. she understands what that's like now. at least he didn't hurt a whole congregation of people. ]
I don't know if I need to go that far but I recently had something happen to me because of this place. I'm just trying to figure out if anyone can tell if it's temporary or if I have to deal with this being permanent.
I didn't do anything that my girlfriend didn't also do and she's fine. But I woke up the next morning and she said there was like molted skin next to the bed
But you're not the only one who has shed skin this month. I believe it is something of a gift from Madam Generosity. You shed an old skin and wear a new one, although I think she may not have understood not everyone wants to change so drastically.
[ she can see if anything happens, see if there are changes that he can't spot in the mirror. but wanda knows that her type of power is very pervasive and not at all comforting. ]
But I can do it from a distance as well. Whatever is more comfortable.
( he goes home and he talks it over with katherine. at first, she's not very happy with it, too concerned with someone going into his mind and him not coming out of it in one piece.
but he reminds her that he's human and a paper cut could take him out. that seems to have an effect. he tells her that she'll be able to come with him to make sure that wanda doesn't do anything untoward. he doesn't know if maybe katherine can step into his head while wanda's doing what she's doing to make doubly sure of that but it's an option.
once they've both decided, he calls wanda and let's her know and he and katherine make their way over to wanda's apartment. )
[ it's a good thing she's set up a lamp location in front of her house. it's just beyond the border of her front yard. some of the bushes gently streak with red as if it's white noise (tainted red) of a television trying to find the right channel.
she's waiting on her porch step for them to arrive, and when two familiar figures do, she stands up and brushes off the back of her pants and lets them make the little walk along her lawn to her front porch. sometimes, some people need those few minutes alone.
and when they're a little closer, she clasps her hands in front of her. stefan looks fineânormal, five fingers per hand, fluffy hair, caterpillar eyebrowsâbut she suspects that he doesn't feel it. ]
[ with a click of her fingers, two comfortable wooden chairs with plush pillows appear on the wraparound porch. (wanda's been redecorating.) she gestures with a gentle wave of her hand. ]
You can both sit. I'll stand behind you like a hairdresser.
[ all wanda wants is to make their nervous energy feel a little less hot and heavy. she knows that's not going to be something completely achievable, but she doesn't want either of them to feel overly distrusting of her.
katherine, as she takes a seat and crosses her legs at the knee, murmurs, ] He does need a haircut.
( stefan makes a face at her and then sits down beside her, resting his hands on his thighs. he's not exactly sure what she's going to do but he tries to relax. )
[ katherine slides her arm behind stefan's chair and taps her fingers against the wood. she's the perfect picture of patience. wanda can sense her worry even beneath the carefully calculated mask.
wanda wrinkles her nose. ] It'll tickle a little, but it won't be painful. It shouldn't. I just want to see if anything has permanently changed. It'll be like... [ she narrows her eyes for a moment in thought. ] Like a feather.
[ wanda doesn't touch stefan. she holds her hands out on either side of his head. her palms begin to glow a gentle red before they brighten, the red bursting quietly and slowly from her hands. he'll feel something close to a little tickle. it's like a feather brushing against his skin. wanda doesn't try to dig any deeper as she starts at his head, feeling his thoughts tease at the surface of the ocean.
he feels strange but fine. there's humanity inside of him that feels twisted, but she imagines that's the vampirism that lingers inside of him. nothing inside of his mind feels different. there are no blockages to prevent him from mentally allowing his body to tug at his vampirism and bring it forth. ]
[ have some swedish fish and a card. where he got them? who the fuck knows. how he delivered them? equally curious. but wanda was nice to him, so enjoy. ]
I didn't once and a lot of people got hurt. And now I'm mad at myself for that. It's a neverending cycle of wanting to rip out eyeballs. Sometimes my own.
Because I feel like every time you bounce back, something else hits.
One day you want to rip out someone's eyes. The next, break someone's finger. Using what you felt as an example. I feel like this is making me appear very violent.
[ wanda wants to say that she's as right as rain. she feels fine. but she knows that she doesn'tâand after what felwinter bore witness to before... she doesn't think she should lie at all. ]
[ is that how being checked up on works? wanda's pretty sure she's messing this up, but! she thinks she can translate "i'm managing" to what it truly means. perhaps felwinter shouldn't be left alone to manage by himself. ]
You shouldn't have to do it alone if you don't need to.
[ if wanda was kinder or gentler, perhaps she would take the supposed L and deter from wandering down this road. but she doesn't think felwinter is someone who appreciates being coddled, even if that's not what she intends to do.
she'd grown up with pietro who had been one of the most stubborn people she'd ever met. felwinter's a lot like him in that regard. ]
Why doesn't it count?
[ she doesn't wish to make him uncomfortable, but when presented with an opportunity, she thinks it's only fair to gently question. after all, he'd helped her when she didn't know she needed it most and had done so when met with some very intense resistance and imagery. ]
[It shouldn't be about him. That's just not how things work between Risen like himself and the mortal Ghostless. Even without his own personal brand of awkwardness, it's an unfamiliar concept as a whole.]
You needn't worry about me. I can take care of myself.
[Friends. Is that what they are? He'd never been particularly good at friendship, even among his own kind. He thinks of a very stubborn Warlord who once insisted that he had no friends, only people he protects, and wonders when he came to apply the same sentiment to himself.
Perhaps when almost everyone he was remotely close to had died.]
All the more reason for me to help. I can handle beasts, and whatever else may be out there.
[That's the easy part. It's everything else he's struggling with. And maybe part of him wants to ask her how she copes with it, but that seems unfair now he's seen some of her own struggles first-hand.]
Getting out of town. Having a task to focus on. It will help.
[ it sounds like that's what he wants. it's not something wanda can judge. hadn't westview been a break? (even though it had caused more reason to take a longer break⌠no one ever said wanda did things the easy way.) ]
A break is never a bad thing. Sometimes things here can get a little repetitive. Sometimes you feel stuck. Powerless.
[ he's seen her at her most powerless, even though she had been at her most powerful. she knows the desire to escape well. ]
I have no doubt you will fix what needs to be fixed.
But just know you don't always have to do it by yourself.
[Though he's not sure why he's openly admitting to it. Perhaps because she had done so first.]
I know how I would normally deal with some of the things I have seen broadcast on DeerNet lately. Some of the things I've seen happening in the streets. But these people are not Risen, and this is not the Dark Age. Things are different here.
Back home, the people I know would have apprehended them and put them in a cell.
I don't know if that's helpful at the end of the day. They always come back. At least when they are dead, it is a one-way trip.
[ is that a little too morbid? wanda thinks felwinter won't think her awful for saying it. the avengers have a code, and it's a code that wanda respects... but she thinks that, at times, it's a code that gets them into more trouble than they need. ]
I know there's a middle ground somewhere. I haven't been able to find it.
Precisely. The Iron Decree forbids killing of Ghosts and final deaths. But if it serves to protect our enemies more than it protects our people, what good is it?
I was very unpopular among the Iron Lords for my willingness to do what others would not.
[And despite not caring about people's opinions of him, Felwinter is glad that Wanda understands his point of view.]
Edited (i can spell i swear) 2022-09-09 09:24 (UTC)
I'm not surprised. People hate what they're afraid of.
[ would wanda apply this to herself? not completely. it's different. felwinter would understand how one rule applies to him and one rule applies to everyone else, at least. ]
Sometimes you need to do what others can't. Sometimes that's what needs to be done to protect others.
You have to live with it. They don't. All that matters is what you feel about it and if you can live with yourself.
I also don't begrudge them their opinions. They wanted to put an end to centuries of Risen fighting amongst themselves. It was only our methods that differed.
[ a lot, but, you knowâthis is one of the first times wanda's coming to terms with it. ]
A lot of people were afraid of me. They always felt that what I could do was weird.
And then they thought I was dangerous because I accidentally hurt people. I feel like no matter how good your intentions are, people are still going to think badly of you no matter what. Sometimes it's just best to let them.
[ because wanda is wanda, she takes that as her invitation. she doesn't require a lantern to travel from her home to the sanctuaryâand right in the room felwinter's in. (being her is sometimes very, very useful.) she appears a little distance away from felwinter (she doesn't wish to spook anyone) with an easy click of her fingers. she's getting better at honing her craft.
with slightly heavy footfalls (she's never been the best at tiptoeing), wanda peers up at the guardian sapling with a small smile and a tilt of her head. ]
It really is very peaceful here.
[ wanda doesn't mean to sound a little surprised. ]
[Oh. That was... really very fast. Felwinter's inexpressiveness hides his surprise well as he rises to his feet and tucks his Omni away in his greatcoat. He is staring, deeply curious once again about just what Wanda's powers make her capable of.]
The tree has an energy which reminds me of the Light. We're cut off from it here, but this is—
[Familiar? Comforting? Unimportant, ultimately. It's not what he wanted to discuss.]
...Wanda. I'm going to show you something, and I want you to describe it.
[His only movement is to raise one hand. In his palm there forms a deep purple orb. A tiny, shadowy swirl of emptiness like a miniature black hole. It dances and pulses with energy.]
Don't overthink it. What does it look like to you? What would you say it is made of?
[ she has a feeling felwinter will never cease surprising her.
looking down at the purple orb he holds in his hand, she glances up at him before ultimately doing as he requests. despite being able to form red energy in her hands and shape it to what she needs it to beâand after seeing alien technology and powers (and feeling it)âit seems⌠strange. and unique. and utterly mesmerising.
and very purple, like agatha. ]
It looks like a planetâlike Saturn. But I don't think⌠[ she frowns at it and keeps her hands behind her back to stop herself from meddling with it. although she may be powerful, she does know that magic on magic can sometimes have disastrous effects. ] I don't think anything is living on it.
[ and if there is⌠she can't sense it. not yet, at least. ]
[Whatever Felwinter thinks of Wanda's response, he doesn't react to it. The specifics of the answer were not really the point, but he is pleased that she's curious rather than fearful, and that her observation leans towards the cosmic rather than the unsavoury.]
No, it doesn't hurt. It's part of me, just as your powers are part of you.
[And while there's nothing living on it, one with sensitivity to such things may feel that there is life there, or the essence of it. As though it's also part of something much bigger and older than Felwinter himself.]
As Risen, we wield the Light in three distinct forms: Solar, Arc, and Void. For a long, long time it was considered taboo to use the Void, because people believed it was Dark, and the Darkness is our enemy.
[He allows the orb to dissipate in a shower of purple sparks.]
[ when the orb dissipates, wanda smiles like a child at christmas. she moves her fingers gently, wiggling them as if she's able to still feel its signature. she thinks she can, even though it grows faint. ]
Was that what that was?
[ she looks at him, her lips still curved in a gentle smile. ]
The Void? [ she shakes her head softly. ] It didn't feel Dark at all.
[ it's strange to think something that beautiful could be considered so negatively. but wanda knows that many people are fearful of what they don't understand. many had been afraid of her. wanda had been terrified of what she had become.
but that? that had been something she thinks has been mistakenly criticised. ]
[ it's how everyone else responded to her powers. they were frightening. they were cruel. sometimes wanda thought they were right in believing that their cruelty came from the wielder.
but she was also learning that sometimes her powers didn't warrant fear. it wasn't fair. ]
But I'm glad that you're not. [ when she smiles, it's small. ] I'm tired of being feared.
[Felwinter tilts his head as Wanda speaks, like a curious bird. Were he anyone else he might insist that he couldn't imagine fearing Wanda, but that would be patently untrue, and patronising in a way he does not think she deserves. Fearing a power is foolishness, like fearing a weapon rather than one who wields it. Fearing a person, and what that person is capable of, is another thing entirely.
He doesn't fear her, but he can imagine others doing so. It only takes a single misstep.]
Many years ago, I challenged a notorious Warlord to duel. He was a brute of a man, built like a mountain, and every bit as immovable. My terms were that, should I defeat him, he would join us. The other Warlords respected and feared him; he would make an invaluable ally.
He took my head off with a single blow. [And oddly enough, from the way he says it, such a brutal death was neither concerning nor even particularly unusual.] Even so, I decided to keep trying. I stayed with him for several weeks, and challenged him daily. Every time was the same. He was very efficient.
[Folding his hands neatly behind his back, Felwinter falls silent for a moment, as though thinking on how best to make his point. The lives of Risen were so very different from those of mortals like Wanda, and he was so very terrible at expressing himself.]
He could have granted me my Final Death at any moment. He was not bound by the Iron Decree, and had been very clear that he did not want me there. I had every reason to fear him. But I... saw something in him that the others did not. Does that make sense?
[ can felwinter blame wanda for furrowing her brows thoughtfully as she regards his head? for that to be loped off, surely, well⌠she takes for granted the fact the removal of a head is instant death. (it's what would've stopped the mad titan once and for all.)
but she nods. she clasps her hands in front of her. while she wishes things were black and whiteâthey're simpler when they are; when someone is bad, it's easy to vilify themâshe knows that they all exist in a gradient of grey and other colours. ]
It does. He sounds scary, but⌠looks can be very deceiving. It's all about action and intent.
[ and if someone doesn't mean to hurt others⌠then she would hope that would mean that doesn't make her awful.
she cocks her head to the side. ] How did you keep your head?
[ wanda knows she means this both literally and figuratively. how did he not give up after repeated failures? ]
Exactly. [He nods his approval at her conclusion.] The Iron Lords planned to make a full assault, to take his territory and liberate his people by force. They didn't need to be liberated.
[It doesn't immediately occur to him that the question might be concern for the literal loss of his head, rather than Wanda making a joke of it.]
Don't misunderstand; his reputation was very well-earned. But his people stayed with him willingly. He protected them, and he believed the weight of that responsibility rested entirely on his own shoulders.
What I saw in him was... potential. A heart just as big as the rest of him. And he was an incredibly stubborn man, but so am I. So I knew I could convince him. Eventually. I just needed time.
[ severely, too. hadn't thanks muttered to thor he should've aimed for his head? if being beheaded would kill the great mad titan, than wanda thinks it's safe to assume that's the way to kill anybody.
but she thinks she knows her answer. while that act may have mattered to felwinter, it wasn't enough to stop him from seeing the forest for the trees, even if some of those trees were a little bloodied.
she curves the corners of her mouth upward as she chuckles softly. ] I would think that someone beheading me would be a very big deal.
I was challenging him, so you could say that every time he did so it was an act of self-defence. Though he would not. That would require that I was a threat to him, and not just a nuisance he was trying to get rid of.
[There's an unusual lightness to his tone, somehow stiff and unnatural, as though he's trying to sound humourous but doesn't quite know how. He pauses a moment, and quickly abandons the attempt with a shake of his head.]
It was simply a case of trusting that he would not... make it permanent, despite being aware of his kill count. And despite him being aware of my own.
[And while he says simply, the fact is that it was anything but. Trust was never something that came easily to him.]
[ it feels like putting it lightly, honestly. to trust someone not to kill you, to not take advantage of however far invulnerability or what have you felwinter has. looking back, wanda understands that vision had trusted her with something similar. he wanted to die to save the world and he wanted to do so with dignity. she hadn't allowed him that, and so the world paid for it. ]
I don't know if I could ever trust someone not to take that final blow. That speaks highly of you. [ whether he wants to admit it or not.
with a small smile, she teases, ] I'm glad that your beheading wasn't permanent. It'd be a pity.
[sansa has both s'mores and lady in the video with her. s'mores has a leather vest with her name (no apostrophe) on the front and 'medical service' on one side. she beams into the omni camera, her backdrop a tapestry with a version of the stark sigil on weirwood branches.]
Hallo, Wanda. I hope you're been well. I thought you might like to meet Smores; she's come to live with us now that my friend Richie's gone back to the sea.
[a sorrowful pause.]
His other dog, Gucci, is here with us too. I should very much like for us to have tea and cakes with you some time, and hear about your summer. And another friend of mine has come to stay with usââshe's a Coldblood, and a weaponsmith by trade. I was wondering if there was anything you might do to keep the house from catching fire, or exploding? I would very much appreciate it, and I should be glad to make you some warmer clothes for the coming seasons either way.
[ wanda smiles. ] Of course. I'd be more than happy to fireproof and explode-proof your home.
[ considering sansa hasn't reported any issues with her other proofingâand wanda's own house seems impenetrable against most things the trench could think to throw at itâshe's becoming more and more confident in her... proofing abilities.
wanda maximoff, the proofing witch. has a gentle sound to it. ]
And to be one of the reasons why you make some warm clothes. I have space in my closet for them.
Oh, thank you. I do think you'll like Jinx; she needs friends, even if she pretends she doesn't. And I know you'll like Smores, she's clever and patient and kind. All the hounds look up to her. Have you met Vhagar yet? She's my hellhound, from the Dog Keeper. Do you know him? He's a wonderful man who lives in the woods, at the Waystation. He trains dogs and does blood magic so they can't be killed, and he lets people have them if he likes them well enough.
Well, you're always welcome to come by and visit them; I just thought perhaps you might like to have a hellhound of your own, if you didn't have one already.
[ she purses her lips in thought and does her best not to appear like she's ten years old again and being teased with a gift. ]
Do you think they wouldn't mind all the magic?
[ the first and last time wanda had a dog... well, her neighbour decided to remove it from her storyline. she doesn't have the best rap sheet with them. :c ]
Well, they're magic dogs. I think perhaps if they minded magic, they wouldn't have let the Dog Keeper make them hellhounds. I don't think he would do magic on a dog that didn't like it, anyway.
[ her expression brightens much like a child's does on christmas. despite all the kindness wanda has been handed over the last handful of years, it still surprises her in a pleasant way when others want to give without anything in return. it's something pietro would have enjoyed, too. ]
Lady's opinion is very important. Her opinion is the only one I ever listen to.
text; un: Wesson - Mid Sept
You doing okay?
text;
I'm okay. Better now that I know I have someone to bully Dean with.
[ there's so much time they have to make up for. ]
Are you okay?
Is it wrong to say I'm glad you're here? I can take it back if it is.
no subject
I don't think that's wrong. I don't have anywhere else to be and like you said, now that the dream team is back together everything is perfect.
Though we should probably lay off him for a little while, it's his time of the month.
no subject
Is he having trouble adjusting to the Trench?
[ she wouldn't blame him. going from one deer town to another would be unsettling for just about anyone. ]
no subject
No this place is like Disneyland compared to where he comes from. Not sure what's up his ass but he sure doesn't want to talk about it.
no subject
Did you two have a fight?
no subject
Has he said anything to you?

[ as any sibling would say, she thinks. wanda still wishes pietro would appear each and every day. ]
That all the Sams are here, but I imagine he's particularly grateful for you.
[ watch out, wanda's the wannabe comedy witch. ]
no subject
He hasn't been acting grateful but who knows. If you get a clue let me know because it's driving me up the wall.
In other much more exciting news, our cabin is here and isn't a shit hole anymore. If you ever need a place. Have you found a place to stay?
no subject
My house from Deerington is here. Not quite a shit hole, either. But I'll keep it in mind when it gets too quiet. The cabin was always so loud whenever I dropped by.
You're always welcome to come here whenever you need some space.
[ no more being driven up walls if it can be helped. ]
no subject
Careful, Wanda. If you give a moose a muffin...]
I might take you up on that. where are you?
no subject
no subject
Not too far. We're in Ache but this teleport by lantern thing makes it all pretty easy. If you've set down a lantern I think I can travel straight to that.
no subject
[ it's not something she's chosen to do. there doesn't seem to be a point with how she can not only fly but manipulate the world around her. but perhaps it would be fun... ]
no subject
5 or 6? But only between major lamp locations. I think it works with personal ones too, though.
no subject
If you're worried, I can always try and turn our locations into major lamp locations.
[ #scarletwitch đ ]
no subject
Oof and have both our houses become major commuting hubs for the city? Hard pass.
Have you set down your lantern yet? I'm not worried. I'm feeling lucky
no subject
but thinking like that will only make it happen. instead, she tries to be confident herself.
after a minute: ]
I have.
[ she's set it outside, around the area where she thinks the border of her property is. it's subtle how the grass seems to differ, but wanda feels that there's a thin line that she can cross where it feels less like home. ]
You'll be outside of my house. Hopefully it won't be too disorienting.
no subject
It won't be now, thanks for the head's up.
When's good?
no subject
no subject
No but what about you?
I'm around now if you want. I'll bring a bottle of something?
no subject
[ she has nowhere to go, no one to particularly see. it's isolation in a much kinder way than her cabin had been. ]
Do you have anything spicy in a bottle?
no subject
I've got red wine and a local thing that's supposed to be similar to whiskey.
I could put a jalapeno in it?
no subject
Don't tell anyone; they'll want to join our very cool and exclusive party.
no subject
Not a soul. I promise :)
But whatever, enjoy Wanda there is a large wild man thing at the edge of your property and he comes bearing gifts.]
no subject
something feels different about him. she can't quite put her finger on it, but for now, she's more focused on wanting to ensure he's in one piece. sam seems like the type to still insist he's fine despite being cut in half.
wanda, still rather tiny despite how big she's grown in her powerbase, approaches him with her hands in the pockets of her coat. her lantern remains where he stands, glowing brightly despite the ugly creatures seeming to cling to it.
smiling, she extends her hands to her sides, still in her pockets. ] Welcome to Casa de Wanda.
[ isn't that what normal people say? ]
Are you feeling okay?
no subject
[He smiles and straightens up a little bit. There's a glance spared for the lamp friends but he doesn't care about them either way and thus has no opinion.
Wanda seems a little different too, but in a good way. A solid way. Maybe she'd just been especially traumatised there at the end of Deerington or maybe his new blood abilities here are picking up on the sparks of her emense power. Either way he opens his arms a little bit, hands holding bottles.]
Well.. New world, monsters, weird blood.. I'm pretty sure we're squids now, but yeah. Mostly okay. Better to know you're here.
I'm guessing you're about the same?
no subject
] Do you think squids can drink alcohol?
no subject
Well, there's only one way to find out.
[He gives a gesture back towards the house to lead on. He will follow faithfully and admire the familiar architecture. He's seen houses like this a million times from the back window of the impala. Another thousand times during investigations. A time or two on pleasure. They're nice. Traditional. Familiar.]
You're here by yourself?
no subject
she leads him along her front yard that's plain without many trees or garden beds. she's still trying to figure that all outâdoes she want a tree to the right? extend her driveway to the left? it's a work in progress, much like her, but everything around the house looks real and vibrant. some of the bushes lined in front of her house pulse a faint red.
I can get rid of all the dog hair.
no subject
Or he might say he was. He doesn't really feel anything and it doesn't bother him. It should, but here we are.
He smiles and shakes his head no.]
Not at all, I love dogs. What kind is he?
[Old Sam loved dogs. This Sam is indifferent but he's doing his best to act like nothing is different in a world where everything is.]
un: blue
but who to reach out to...!
oho:] Hello Wanda
This is Blue
no subject
[ wanda's texted a few people in her life. she's now glad she can add blue to that list. ]
I'm not used to you not being in my head. It feels strangely empty.
no subject
My apologies, we will have to meet again soon
I wanted to make sure I could still contact you through this device
no subject
And that I can reach you, too. I know there will be things that would be better written down than thought of. Like how I am glad that you're still here.
[ it's always nice to have a written reminder, isn't it? ]
no subject
I am likewise glad to know you are here...
Have you been alright? The month has been very tumultuous...dangerous. So many threats...
no subject
[ that would be too boring, wouldn't it? ]
I've been good.
Someone from my home arrived. I am selfishly very happy that they're here.
I don't feel bad about it. Do you think that's wrong?
no subject
no subject
The Trench fished my brother out. I haven't seen him in a very long time.
I think you would find him a little exasperating. He talks too much. Never takes a breath.
no subject
no subject
If you see anyone who zips by you at super speed that is colored blue, you can trip him. You have my permission.
I actually encourage it.
no subject
no subject
Have you ever met someone who can move so fast you can't see them?

no subject
Sometimes I wish that I could be super strong and nothing else. It seems very handy.
no subject
I do miss being strong enough to fly, however.
no subject
You used to fly?
no subject
You do not fly? Your gifts certainly seem capable of it at a glance.
no subject
Did you want to fly again?
[ đĄ ]

no subject
That's the first time I've ever been compared to a pebble...
no subject
Blue feather. Blue grain of sand (not as impressive).
no subject
no subject
And trust me, it won't endanger me at all. Maybe I'll finally learn how to land gracefully from someone else who knows how to fly like me.
no subject
no subject
I'll be the cushion! You have to teach me how to land. I think you'd do a lot better than me. I just drop to the ground.
no subject
Very well, I will try to help you with that...for the sake of your ankles and knees.
no subject
[ soon, she'll be complaining of a very sore superhero back. ]
How long has it been since you last flew?
no subject
Mere moments before I had left the universe I knew. I had flown then with the last of my strength before everything changed.
It was not a joyful flight.
no subject
Maybe so joyful, you never want to walk again. I hope you're prepared for that.
[ she's going to make this the best damn flight he's ever had. ]
no subject
Very high expectations...I will look forward to it.
Let me tend to my companions here in the house first...as anxious as I am to leave, I want to make sure they will be alright. Things have been very rough on them of late.

Sorry to bother you. My name's Stefan and I got your name from a friend of mine. Do you mind me asking you a magically related question?
no subject
[ the very hungry vampire who wanda has kept tabs on in her own way. he seems to have gotten that chomping a little under control.
it's not fair of her to hold him being out of control against him, so, wanda doesn't. she understands what that's like now. at least he didn't hurt a whole congregation of people. ]
What question do you have?
no subject
no subject
[ it sounds like humble bragging and maybe it is, but wanda's still learning how to answer this question. ]
I can read minds and move things with my mind. I can make things appear and disappear. I can rewrite reality if I want it.
I don't think anything is out of my realm of skill.
no subject
( hm. )
I don't know if I need to go that far but I recently had something happen to me because of this place. I'm just trying to figure out if anyone can tell if it's temporary or if I have to deal with this being permanent.
no subject

no subject
That's very gross.
But you're not the only one who has shed skin this month. I believe it is something of a gift from Madam Generosity. You shed an old skin and wear a new one, although I think she may not have understood not everyone wants to change so drastically.
Is she your Patron?
no subject
But I admit that I don't keep up with that much. But I would recognize that name. She's not mine.
no subject
I can see if it's permanent if you like.
no subject
How could you tell?
no subject

no subject
If I can't find the answer, then I'll need to read your mind to see if there is a block.

But I can do it from a distance as well. Whatever is more comfortable.

( he goes home and he talks it over with katherine. at first, she's not very happy with it, too concerned with someone going into his mind and him not coming out of it in one piece.
but he reminds her that he's human and a paper cut could take him out. that seems to have an effect. he tells her that she'll be able to come with him to make sure that wanda doesn't do anything untoward. he doesn't know if maybe katherine can step into his head while wanda's doing what she's doing to make doubly sure of that but it's an option.
once they've both decided, he calls wanda and let's her know and he and katherine make their way over to wanda's apartment. )
no subject
she's waiting on her porch step for them to arrive, and when two familiar figures do, she stands up and brushes off the back of her pants and lets them make the little walk along her lawn to her front porch. sometimes, some people need those few minutes alone.
and when they're a little closer, she clasps her hands in front of her. stefan looks fineânormal, five fingers per hand, fluffy hair, caterpillar eyebrowsâbut she suspects that he doesn't feel it. ]
We can do it out here if you like.
no subject
( he glances at katherine and katherine shrugs but stays close to him. so, stefan nods at her. )
Yeah, okay. Let's do it out here.
no subject
You can both sit. I'll stand behind you like a hairdresser.
[ all wanda wants is to make their nervous energy feel a little less hot and heavy. she knows that's not going to be something completely achievable, but she doesn't want either of them to feel overly distrusting of her.
katherine, as she takes a seat and crosses her legs at the knee, murmurs, ] He does need a haircut.
no subject
( stefan makes a face at her and then sits down beside her, resting his hands on his thighs. he's not exactly sure what she's going to do but he tries to relax. )
Am I going to feel anything?
no subject
wanda wrinkles her nose. ] It'll tickle a little, but it won't be painful. It shouldn't. I just want to see if anything has permanently changed. It'll be like... [ she narrows her eyes for a moment in thought. ] Like a feather.
no subject
Okay.
( he closes his eyes and waits. )
no subject
he feels strange but fine. there's humanity inside of him that feels twisted, but she imagines that's the vampirism that lingers inside of him. nothing inside of his mind feels different. there are no blockages to prevent him from mentally allowing his body to tug at his vampirism and bring it forth. ]
I'm going to do a little scan.
no subject
Yeah, all right.

[ she's so funny. ]
Sorry, witch joke.
I did slightly. You were mad, too?
no subject
ever had something like that happen? a mood change like that?
no subject
[ she means it. she was ready to rip some heads off.
but wanda doesn't want to come across as flippant. ]
I had to kill someone I loved for the greater good. At the time, it seemed like it was the only answer. After, it meant nothing.
I think about it sometimes and get very mad.
no subject
no subject
I didn't once and a lot of people got hurt. And now I'm mad at myself for that.
It's a neverending cycle of wanting to rip out eyeballs. Sometimes my own.
no subject
i don't know your healing factor
but even that's tough for me.

Sorry, that sounds very depressing. I just find the idea of "bouncing back" to feel so... false. It's so easy to do in the movies.

I'm honestly not sure.
How are you?
no subject
[He's definitely not managing.]
I'll be going out to help with construction of the outpost west of Trench. I just wanted to check in before I left.
no subject
[ is that how being checked up on works? wanda's pretty sure she's messing this up, but! she thinks she can translate "i'm managing" to what it truly means. perhaps felwinter shouldn't be left alone to manage by himself. ]
You shouldn't have to do it alone if you don't need to.
no subject
[He might be deliberately missing the point.]
Do you need anything? While I'm still here.
no subject
[ she sees you, felwinter. ]
I need to help you. Would you accept that as an answer?
[ wanda chuckles; she sincerely doubts that. ]
no subject
The point was to make sure that you're ok. That doesn't count.
[Though he feels... guilty, perhaps, for denying her. Which is strange for a man who could not care less what others think of him or his actions.]
no subject
she'd grown up with pietro who had been one of the most stubborn people she'd ever met. felwinter's a lot like him in that regard. ]
Why doesn't it count?
[ she doesn't wish to make him uncomfortable, but when presented with an opportunity, she thinks it's only fair to gently question. after all, he'd helped her when she didn't know she needed it most and had done so when met with some very intense resistance and imagery. ]
no subject
[It shouldn't be about him. That's just not how things work between Risen like himself and the mortal Ghostless. Even without his own personal brand of awkwardness, it's an unfamiliar concept as a whole.]
You needn't worry about me. I can take care of myself.
no subject
They worry about their friends who are capable of taking care of themselves. It can't be helped.
[ đ we're making the friendship bracelets as we speak. ]
And, no.
I won't not worry about you.
Repairing anything in the Trench can be dangerous, even when it involves people of very high skill.
no subject
Perhaps when almost everyone he was remotely close to had died.]
All the more reason for me to help. I can handle beasts, and whatever else may be out there.
[That's the easy part. It's everything else he's struggling with. And maybe part of him wants to ask her how she copes with it, but that seems unfair now he's seen some of her own struggles first-hand.]
Getting out of town. Having a task to focus on. It will help.
[He thinks.]
no subject
[ it sounds like that's what he wants. it's not something wanda can judge. hadn't westview been a break? (even though it had caused more reason to take a longer break⌠no one ever said wanda did things the easy way.) ]
A break is never a bad thing. Sometimes things here can get a little repetitive. Sometimes you feel stuck. Powerless.
[ he's seen her at her most powerless, even though she had been at her most powerful. she knows the desire to escape well. ]
I have no doubt you will fix what needs to be fixed.
But just know you don't always have to do it by yourself.
no subject
[Though he's not sure why he's openly admitting to it. Perhaps because she had done so first.]
I know how I would normally deal with some of the things I have seen broadcast on DeerNet lately. Some of the things I've seen happening in the streets. But these people are not Risen, and this is not the Dark Age. Things are different here.
no subject
[ wanda has a feeling that it may not involve holding hands and gently tugging someone along. but she's been wrong many times before. ]
no subject
[He's not ashamed of that.]
I've never hesitated to do what is necessary, even if it meant breaking my oath.
no subject
I don't know if that's helpful at the end of the day. They always come back. At least when they are dead, it is a one-way trip.
[ is that a little too morbid? wanda thinks felwinter won't think her awful for saying it. the avengers have a code, and it's a code that wanda respects... but she thinks that, at times, it's a code that gets them into more trouble than they need. ]
I know there's a middle ground somewhere. I haven't been able to find it.
no subject
I was very unpopular among the Iron Lords for my willingness to do what others would not.
[And despite not caring about people's opinions of him, Felwinter is glad that Wanda understands his point of view.]
no subject
[ would wanda apply this to herself? not completely. it's different. felwinter would understand how one rule applies to him and one rule applies to everyone else, at least. ]
Sometimes you need to do what others can't. Sometimes that's what needs to be done to protect others.
You have to live with it. They don't. All that matters is what you feel about it and if you can live with yourself.
no subject
[Not about that, at least.]
I also don't begrudge them their opinions. They wanted to put an end to centuries of Risen fighting amongst themselves. It was only our methods that differed.
You sound like you speak from experience.
no subject
[ a lot, but, you knowâthis is one of the first times wanda's coming to terms with it. ]
A lot of people were afraid of me. They always felt that what I could do was weird.
And then they thought I was dangerous because I accidentally hurt people. I feel like no matter how good your intentions are, people are still going to think badly of you no matter what. Sometimes it's just best to let them.
no subject
I want to show you something. Are you busy?
no subject
[ wanda laughs; she likes her little mum jokes. ]
no subject
no subject
If that's too far, I can come to you.
[ in a blink of an eye, even! ]
no subject
[Sat under the Guardian Sapling, as he tends to when he needs some peace of mind.]
no subject
with slightly heavy footfalls (she's never been the best at tiptoeing), wanda peers up at the guardian sapling with a small smile and a tilt of her head. ]
It really is very peaceful here.
[ wanda doesn't mean to sound a little surprised. ]
no subject
The tree has an energy which reminds me of the Light. We're cut off from it here, but this is—
[Familiar? Comforting? Unimportant, ultimately. It's not what he wanted to discuss.]
...Wanda. I'm going to show you something, and I want you to describe it.
[His only movement is to raise one hand. In his palm there forms a deep purple orb. A tiny, shadowy swirl of emptiness like a miniature black hole. It dances and pulses with energy.]
Don't overthink it. What does it look like to you? What would you say it is made of?
no subject
looking down at the purple orb he holds in his hand, she glances up at him before ultimately doing as he requests. despite being able to form red energy in her hands and shape it to what she needs it to beâand after seeing alien technology and powers (and feeling it)âit seems⌠strange. and unique. and utterly mesmerising.
and very purple, like agatha.
Does it hurt to hold it?
no subject
No, it doesn't hurt. It's part of me, just as your powers are part of you.
[And while there's nothing living on it, one with sensitivity to such things may feel that there is life there, or the essence of it. As though it's also part of something much bigger and older than Felwinter himself.]
As Risen, we wield the Light in three distinct forms: Solar, Arc, and Void. For a long, long time it was considered taboo to use the Void, because people believed it was Dark, and the Darkness is our enemy.
[He allows the orb to dissipate in a shower of purple sparks.]
People fear what they don't understand.
my apologies! i thought i had replied to this.
No worries!
[Now is really not the time for long-winded Warlock theories.]
But I wanted you to know that I... understand, on some level. And I don't fear your power, Wanda.
â¤ď¸!!
Please excuse how long this got.
Does that make sense?
i love this!
but she nods. she clasps her hands in front of her. while she wishes things were black and whiteâthey're simpler when they are; when someone is bad, it's easy to vilify themâshe knows that they all exist in a gradient of grey and other colours. ]
no subject
[It doesn't immediately occur to him that the question might be concern for the literal loss of his head, rather than Wanda making a joke of it.]
Don't misunderstand; his reputation was very well-earned. But his people stayed with him willingly. He protected them, and he believed the weight of that responsibility rested entirely on his own shoulders.
What I saw in him was... potential. A heart just as big as the rest of him. And he was an incredibly stubborn man, but so am I. So I knew I could convince him. Eventually. I just needed time.
no subject
[ severely, too. hadn't thanks muttered to thor he should've aimed for his head? if being beheaded would kill the great mad titan, than wanda thinks it's safe to assume that's the way to kill anybody.
but she thinks she knows her answer. while that act may have mattered to felwinter, it wasn't enough to stop him from seeing the forest for the trees, even if some of those trees were a little bloodied.
she curves the corners of her mouth upward as she chuckles softly. ] I would think that someone beheading me would be a very big deal.
[ now there's the joke. ]
no subject
[There's an unusual lightness to his tone, somehow stiff and unnatural, as though he's trying to sound humourous but doesn't quite know how. He pauses a moment, and quickly abandons the attempt with a shake of his head.]
It was simply a case of trusting that he would not... make it permanent, despite being aware of his kill count. And despite him being aware of my own.
[And while he says simply, the fact is that it was anything but. Trust was never something that came easily to him.]
no subject

I don't think he would do magic on a dog that didn't like it, anyway.

so, instead, she brushes her fingers over her mouth in a bid to try and hide her smile. ]
Do you think he'd give me one? I'm very good with animals! [ sort of. ] I have horses!
[ see? they're her reference. neigh, neigh, wanda's a great horse mom. ]

I'm sure he will; we could go together, and I'll tell him how much all my animals like you. I think he values Lady's opinion a good deal.

[ no offense, sansa. ]
